The Amory Wars is the story behind Coheed And Cambria's first five albums, told more elaborately as a series of comic books and a novel. The concept is written by Claudio Sanchez, who largely bases the stories on his experiences. The comics are published by Evil Ink Comics, Claudio's own publishing company.

The story takes place in the fictional universe known as Heaven's Fence, containing seventy eight planets and seven Stars of Sirius, all held together by a beam of light known as The Keywork.

Within Heaven's Fence are three different races, all given a different part to play: Man, the Mage and the Prise. However, there are also some un-catalogued races which inhabit the Fence, such as the IRO-bots and the Stars.

The story consists of five chapters, the first and last being split into two volumes:

  1. The Afterman: Ascension and Descension
  2. Year of the Black Rainbow
  3. The Second Stage Turbine Blade
  4. In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3
  5. Good Apollo, I'm Burning Star IV,
Vol. 1: From Fear Through The Eyes Of Madness
Vol. 2: No World For Tomorrow

Release History

After the scrapped issues of The Bag.On.Line Adventures, and Claudio's disappointment with the Good Apollo graphic novel, he decided to retitle the story The Amory Wars, and begin again from scratch.

Prior to the release of the first issue, an exclusive comic book was released entitled the "Amory Wars Sketchbook". It was split into three sections. The first section, Machinations, is a script for an "Amory Wars - Issue #0" detailing a brief history of Heaven's Fence including the Mage Wars, and the events afterwards, leading up to The Second Stage Turbine Blade. The second section, Instruments, contained brief character summarys and drawings for the following characters: Coheed, Cambria, Claudio, Newo, Inferno, Mariah, Paranoia, Ryan and Mayo. The third and final section, Catalyst, is a brief profile on Claudio Sanchez, creator of the Amory Wars.

Beginning in June 2007, Evil Ink released a monthly five issue mini-series which told the first half of The Second Stage Turbine Blade, which were later collected in a single graphic novel. In June 2008, the second five issue mini-series was released, which was also later collected as a single graphic novel, which also featured the short story "33".

On April 13th, 2010, a 352 page novel was released detailing the first chapter, Year Of The Black Rainbow, and was written by Claudio and Peter David. On May 26th, 2010, the first issue of In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3 will be released, with subsequent issues released monthly.

As In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 ended on August, 2011, the whole set was made into 3 trade paperbacks, 1 with #1-4, 2 with #5-8, and 3 with #9-12. Now, on May 22nd, 2012, the entire Silent Earth series will be collected into an Ultimate Edition, just like how The Second Stage Turbine Blade was collected.
